Beres Hammond

Beres Hammond was born in Annotto Bay, Saint Mary, Jamaica in 1955. As the ninth of tenth children, he grew up listening to his father’s collection of American soul and jazz music. He participated in local talent contests as a child, and joined a band, Zap Pow, in the 1970s as the lead singer.

After being with the band for three years, Beres pursued his solo career and released his debut album, "Soul Reggae", in 1976. He later founded his own record company in 1985 which lead him to produce two Jamaican chart-toping hits that were influenced by dance hall.

Beres relocated to New York City in 1987 and continued recording. After being in New York for a couple of years, he returned to Jamaica permanently where he recorded the smash hit, “Tempted To Touch” which his the best known song in the United States and UK to date.

Beres released his latest album in 2008 entitled, “A Moment In Time” and is now scheduled to perform at this years Sounds Of Reggae Concert on 12/12/12.
