Musiq’s new single, “Buddy" is a favorite amongst our audience so it’s only fitting that we feature him as our artist profile.
Musiq's debut album, “Aijuswanaseing" (2000) garnered major success and spawned the hits, “Just friends" and “Love", he then released “Juslisen" (2002) which gave us the smashes, “Halfcrazy" and “Don’t Change". His third album “Soulstar" brought us the club banger “For the Night" and “Who knows" and once again received both critical and popular success.
He has received many awards and accolades, too many to even name. Safe to say, this Philly native is a talent and a force to be reckoned with.
When referring to his latest album, Musiq states, “I’ve been away for a little while, the industry’s changed and so have I – personally, mentally, psychologically. I look at my previous three albums as grade school, middle school and high school. Now with this new album, “Luvanmusiq" it’s like I’m off to college". The evolution of his sound is evident on this new project. He states, “I like to write and perform songs that have a more realistic perspective on things. I’m not 21 anymore, so I’m not talking about the same stuff".
Musiq has paid his dues; sleeping on couches and worked menial jobs to get by. He always had faith that he would make it so he never second guessed himself. He referred to his life “like a movie" and was just going through the part of the movie when he was down. He spent many nights gigging all over Philly and hanging out with musicians. Everyone knew who he was but never knew his name; they just referred to him as that “Musiq dude". He decided to keep the name, Musiq. The combination of both Musiq Soulchild is a combination of two ideas. “Musiq" is the front man and “Soulchild" is the idea behind it. It’s basically him as an artist in this generation representing the traditions and the legacies of the past soul stars.
Congrats to you, young man...keep serving us with that good ole "Musiq".
