“Mario’s voice is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard”……..Alicia Keys
Mario Barrett is already on his third album and is only twenty years old!!
The Baltimore native, Mario Barrett blew us away with his rich vocals on his gold debut album, “Mario” in 2002. His very first single, “Just a friend” is a catchy, fresh, youthful record that caught everyone’s attention. He was just 15 years old when it was released.
Mario has been singing since the age of four. He honed his skills singing along with a karaoke machine and on the piano his mom bought him. Citing Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, Usher and Joe as major inspirations to him, Mario began perfecting his craft in elementary school. He began entering talent shows to create a buzz for himself. It paid off as he landed a recording contract with Clive Davis’ J-Records.
“Just a friend” soared to the top of the charts. Soon after, Mario went on tour with Bow Wow, Nick Cannon, B2K and Marques Houston which gained him additional notoriety as the “Scream Tour” was very successful. He then went back into the studio to begin working on his second double platinum album, “Turning Point” released in 2004. This album spawned his biggest record to date, “Let me love you” which remained at the top of the charts for nine consecutive weeks. With a variety of awards and accolades under his belt, Mario now returns with his third album, “Go” which will be release this July.
When speaking about the new album, he states, “ Go is really just about me finding out who I am and really getting a grasp of it because I know I’m going to give my all and my career is only going to go up. I’m a spiritual person, I see god in everything.”
The first single off this new album, is “How do I breathe”. It’s a mid-tempo ballad that showcases his beautiful, melodic, voice. This track definitely displays his growth as it is evident he has outgrown kiddy material. This song has warm substance and commercial appeal. Mario has also caught the acting bug. He was featured in two movies to date, “Step up” and “Freedom writers”.
With all that he is achieving, Mario is also developing and investing in a company called “Soul Truth”. He will develop artists, music and a non-profit company under that umbrella. The non-profit organization will help under privileged kids and those that grew up with parents with substance abuse problems like him.
Congrats Mario, we look forward to hearing and seeing more of you!!
