Hailing from D.C., J. Holiday has been singing since the age of nine. He was born into a musical family; his mom sang in a gospel group and his older sister sang back up for Crystal Waters.
Struggling with the unexpected passing of his father, the family bounced around D.C. for awhile trying to adjust to the loss. Singing became his refuge. A performance in a 9th grade talent show and the discovery of the late great, Marvin Gaye is when J knew he wanted to pursue singing as a career. He formed a group called “295”. The group landed a record deal right after graduating high school; however the group never took off. That’s when J realized he desired doing a solo project. His manager arranged for him to perform in front of Capitol records executives which resulted in his debut album, “Back of My Lac”. Holiday brings a gritty edge to R&B, reminiscent of Jodeci minus the additional group members. He effortlessly takes you from the streets to the bedroom. Speaking of bedrooms, his first single, “Bed” is a huge, sexy smash that remains on top of the charts.
His second single, “Suffocate” is a heartfelt ballad that showcases his vocal ability. You’ll be amazed at how talented this young man is. The album is great!
Don’t forget, J. Holiday will be joining us in Jamaica for Hedonism II in January. We are sure he’s gonna tear it down! Can’t wait!
