City renames E. 228th St. in Bronx after Ted Corbitt, the 'father of American running'

The African-American Olympian often called “the father of American running” will finally be honored in the Bronx neighborhood in which he lived.

E. 228th St. will be renamed “Ted Corbitt Way,” after the legendary athlete and first black marathoner, who ran for the U.S. in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki and later lived in Marble Hill.

Corbitt was also the founding president of the New York Road Runners Club.
