It’s about time.
Samsung Electronics on Wednesday took the wraps off the Galaxy Gear, a wrist-worn gadget that can be used for making phone calls, taking photos and other tasks.
The debut marks Samsung’s latest stab at a smartwatch as it aims to get an edge against rivals like Apple and tap into a market for wearable devices that analysts expect to take off in coming years.
The device features a 1.63-inch screen, a 1.9-megapixel camera, and battery life of about 27 hours.
The Gear goes on sale later this month at a price of $299. It will be able to connect wirelessly via bluetooth with the company’s new Galaxy Note 3 device, which was also introduced at the event.
