The Daily News’ fifth annual 5 Alarm Cookoff reached its boiling point on the “Rachael Ray” show Tuesday.
Rookie contestant Khalid Baylor, a firefighter who works out of Ladder 14 in East Harlem, was on a hot streak, beating out four other borough semifinalists.
He won with his Fried Buttermilk Chicken and Sweet Potato Waffles — the same recipe that smoked the Manhattan semifinal round that qualifed him for the finals.
While his rivals impressed with some fancy presentations, the sweet and savory basics of Baylor’s dish won over celebrity guest judge Jenny McCarthy, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” and 10 nurses — two from each borough — who helped deliberate.
