Dogs are outstanding, NYC appeals court rules, in helping child witnesses

Canines in New York City courts are now a real paw-sibility after a Brooklyn appeals panel unleashed the use of “comfort dogs” to assist fragile child witnesses on the stand.

All five district attorneys — three of whom already use therapy dogs to soothe and prep victims outside the courtroom — said they might utilize the pooches at trial if an appropriate case comes up.

“Anything that aids and comforts a kid who testifies — it can only be a good thing,” Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said.
