Forget the Harlem Shake, get ready to do the Bronx Whine.
A new dance craze is gyrating across the birthplace of hip-hop courtesy of a 16-year-old Spanish rap sensation.
BB Bronx, a straight-A student better known as Carlos Almonte to teachers and classmates at Bronx Lighthouse Charter School, released a video this week for “Bronx Whine,” and the song is already turning heads and shaking tails.
“It’s going to catch on,” said a confident Almonte, noting that the track was inspired a Jamaican dance style called a “wine,” a play on the word wind.
Almonte, who was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the Bronx when he was 12, shot to fame with a freestyle rap video that went viral on YouTube in 2010. He gave his new hip-shaker a Latin flavor by teaming up with Puerto Rican reggaeton star Farruko.
The video garnered more than 49,000 views in the first two days after it was posted to Youtube on Tuesday.
