Baby seal washes ashore at Brooklyn creek, enjoys sun for couple of hours

An adorable baby seal washed ashore along a creek in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Sunday afternoon and sunned itself briefly before making its way back into the water, officials and witnesses said.

A group of teens skating nearby said they were startled by the sight of a baby seal on the pavement around 2 p.m. at the Newtown Creek Nature Walk.

"It looked like it had scratches on its forehead and back," said 15-year-old Arnold, who declined to give his last name. "We saw the baby seal and we didn't know what was going on. We called the NYPD."

Damian Snickersen, 14, said he and his friends tried to coax the adorable seal to the water without touching it.

"It looked scared. It was a baby seal, not too big, like the side of a dog, a fat dog," Snickersen said. "We wanted to lead it to the water but we didn't want to touch it."
