Salute The DJ: Shaila New York’s Sweetheart! [PHOTOS]
As we honor DJ’s and radio personalities who have impacted the world of music, our very own Shaila must be a part of the conversation!
Born and raised in Harlem, New York Shaila has created a lane for herself after graduating from Buffalo State College with a Bachelors degree in Radio and Television.
Not only did her professional career immediately kick off with a part-time position at a local radio station in Buffalo, she later returned to her hometown in New York City to take over the airwaves and become a popular voice that fans would later learn to love.
Shaila worked under the wing of the late Vaughn Harper, and acquired skills that cannot be taught in the classroom.
The Harlem native went from filling in at WBLS to dominating 98.7 Kiss FM and returning home to WBLS to taking the station to new levels with her charismatic sisterly -loving personality.
Shaila has gone on to interview some of the biggest celebrities in entertainment including the legendary Patti Labelle, Jamie Foxx, Chaka Khan and many MORE!
Today Shaila is the founder of the Sisterly Kiss Foundation, a non-profit organization that aids women who’ve suffered from domestic violence. You can hear Midday’s with Shaila Monday through Friday at 10am to 3pm on WBLS accompanied by DJ Marley Marl!
Fun fact: At one point in her early career Shaila took to the turntables and went by the name of DJ Apache!
