For over twenty-three years, April Glasco, M.A., the founder and CEO of Second Chance Last Opportunity Inc., a nonprofit organization in Sarasota, Florida, has empowered individuals from all walks of life to gain a sense of self-worth, self-esteem, and confidence through her teaching, counseling, interpersonal workshops, and speaking engagements.

After experiences as a Corrections Officer at the Manatee County Sheriff Department, as a Juvenile Detention Case Worker at the Department of Juvenile Justice, and as a Tech at Manatee Glens Hospital, April Glasco opened a convenience store in the heart of Sarasota’s Newtown, a historically black community which continually struggles with big-city issues like crime, drugs, domestic violence, and unemployment. From her vantage point, April watched young people make bad choices and ruin their lives.

She decided to do something about this and closed her storefront, giving away its contents, and in 1995 re-opened it as Second Chance-Last Opportunity, a hands-on intervention center. Since then, SCLO programs have grown to include life-management skills training, parenting skills training, counseling, mentoring, HIV-AIDS education and counseling, summer and after-school youth programs, food, clothing and shelter referrals, and holiday meals and food distribution.

In 2013 April wrote a book entitled Divine Purpose of Inspiration. This self-help book is the culmination of April`s experiences and years of inspiring men and women in surrounding areas. In 2015, she wrote her second book entitled You Only Know My Name, Not My Story. This empowerment book helps her readers to have a greater understanding of life`s purpose.

April Yvonne Glasco, M.A., in her role as a mental health counselor is an expert on the subjects of anger management, parenting, relationships, and goal setting.

April applies these skills as a teacher, counselor, and motivational speaker. Her passion is helping youths and adults become successful and live productive lives for themselves, their families, and their community. She provides real talk and inspiring messages in workshops and seminars. She created and developed a curriculum entitled Life Management. In this training program, participants find a place of refuge where they can share their fears and conquer them, learn self-expression, and discover new things about themselves. This program has transformed many lives by restoring and building healthy relationships between parents and children, couples, family members, and friends.

April’s passion for others has also helped empower individuals to dream bigger, think outside the box, and reach their goals by way of self-employment, continuing their education, career discovery. She is committed to the work of the Second Chance Last Opportunity, Inspiration Praise& Worship ministry, and education. April Glasco completed her education by receiving her Doctor of Divinity Degree.
