The R&B singer has found herself the victim of social media's latest rampage. Yesterday (August 9) marked the birthday of the late Whitney Houston, and many took to Instagram and Twitter to wish the multitalented star a Happy Birthday. Including Brandy and her The Boy Is Mine duet partner, Monica. Things quickly escalated after Brandy posted that Houston passed her the “torch” and it seemed to throw shade at Monica’s own birthday post.
Once social media users started to attack Brandy, questioning the authenticity behind her THREE birthday posts, the Moesha star clapped back, telling Monica to get a handle on her “evil” fans. She then jumped into the comments section of Instagram user @TheJasmineBrand_ stating “she passed the torch when she passed on my birthday. I have a duty to do what she asked me to do and not anyone else. No one knows what we talked about and no one knows what the note said but she gave it to me and I made her a promise! So you, your faves, and your followers can sit down somewhere and I don't follow oh girl so I don't know what she post, or posted.” She also declares that despite the love that Whitney had for both singers, Brandy’s relationship was closer.
The back and forth between the Have You Ever singer and social media continued into the day, with Brandy posting multiple comments to defend herself and demand that Monica get a handle on her “hating ass pigeons”. While she did receive support from actress Keke Palmer, who reminded people of the road that Brandy paved for black women in the 90s, the comments did not cease anytime soon.
Monica has yet to comment on the drama.
What do you think? Was Brandy being selfish or did her posts reflect her pure love for Whitney?
