Everyone is talking about Jay-Z’s recent 4:44 release, but it’s not (just) because of the music.
Hov’s releasing visual footnotes describing the thought process and ideologies behind various tracks on his new album. In his latest set of footnotes, Jay reveals he had to beg Beyonce not to leave him during a vacation together, Page Six reports.
In his moment of truth, which was shared in a room with fellow celeb friends Will Smith, Aziz Anasari, Jesse Williams, Meek Mill, and Mahershala Ali, the entertainment mogul says opens up about a particular moment in his marriage where his wife said she had had enough.
“I was on a boat, and I had the best time. I was like, ‘Man, this is great.’ Then she had to leave,” he said. “I was, like, crushed. ‘Man, I don’t even feel like this. What is happening to my body right now?’ I was like, ‘Don’t go.’ I was, like, ‘Did I just say’ … all this is new for me. ‘Don’t leave’?”
He continued, “Then we had to get to a point of, ‘Okay, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning’ … It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done…“We just got to a place where, in order for this to work, this can’t be fake. Not one ounce. I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was. But because we’d been doing it for so long, it was less uncomfortable.”
