Miss USA Kara McCullough is standing by the controversial statements she made about healthcare during Sunday night’s Miss USA pageant – and you can love her or hate her for it.
The scientist-turned-pageant-winner spoke with TMZ via video chat yesterday and she defended her opinion by saying, “I’m a woman, and I believe in standing behind my word. I said it, and I’m gonna own it.” She went on to say, “I’m actually kinda happy that there is conversation around issues that are happening in our nation. So by all means, if people are going to disagree, which is always going to happen in the nation that we live in, then that’s just what happens.”
In case you missed it, McCullough was asked about her opinions on healthcare in America: is it a right or a privilege? Her response, well, you can judge for yourself. She answered judges by saying, “I’m definitely going to say [healthcare’s] a privilege. As a government employee, I am granted health care, and I see firsthand that for one to have healthcare, you need to have a job."
