DMX pled guilty to tax fraud yesterday, helping him dodge a $1.7 million tax lien and a possible 43-year prison sentence.

According to The New York Times, while Judge Jed Rakoff has set a sentencing hearing for the man properly known as Earl Simmons for March 29 of next year, it will likely be postponed as the rapper works to complete rehab for drug and alcohol abuse.

U.S. Attorney Joon Kim said the Ruff Ryder was “systemically cheating on his taxes,” and “no matter who you are or whatever fame you may have achieved, the law applies equally to all, and no one is exempt from the shared obligation to pay our taxes.”

Reports claim DMX “deposited hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalty income from music recordings into the bank accounts of his managers, who gave him cash.”

Between 2011 and 2012, the New York-bred MC filed an affidavit with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, stating his income as “unknown,” and only $10,000 for 2013 – all information that was false.

DMX now faces up to five years in prison.
