Golden Krust CEO Lowell Hawthorne was found dead in his Bronx factory Saturday night after committing suicide.

Police reports say that security footage inside the building caught the 57-year-old Jamaican emigrant shooting himself in the head on camera. It’s said that his company was in the process of building a new $37 million headquarters in Rockland County.

Lowell moved to the United States from Jamaica in 1981, and opened his first Golden Krust in the Bronx in 1989.

In 2015, Hawthorne told the Wall Street Journal that “by 2020 all Americans will have heard of Jamaican patties.

The New York Post reports that the famed restaurateur killed himself because he feared “the feds were investigating him for evading millions of dollars in taxes.”  While these details are not confirmed, family members “admitted the huge tax debt to some of his relatives, and was ‘acting funny’ and ‘talking to himself’ in the hours before his suicide.”

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness offered his condolenes to Lowell's family via Twitter Saturday evening.

Details about Hawthorne’s death are still developing.
