Mayweather Vs. Canelo - Who Will Be 'The One'?
On September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather, 44-0, will be facing Canelo Alvarez, 42-0-1, with both men’s titles on the line - Mayweather’s WBA Super Welterweight “Super” Championship belt and Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight Championship belts. The fight will be contested at a catch weight of 152 pounds.
Yesterday, a press conference was held at Times Square in New York City, which was the first of an eleven city tour to promote the fight. Mayweather touched on many topics during the news conference ranging from Adrien Broner, boxing needing to be cleaned up and the upcoming fight against Canelo. When asked if he knew what Canelo would bring to the table, Mayweather responded saying that he didn’t know what Canelo will bring and that his job is to prepare himself for the fight, remain focused and make no mistakes in the ring. Earlier in the news conference, Mayweather was asked if he felt fear. He responded by saying in boxing, he never feels fear, but as a human, he does feel fear in certain situations. Mayweather also lightened up the mood a bit during the news conference when asked about trash talking an opponent who only speaks Spanish. He responded by saying, “he wouldn’t understand me anyway".
When Canelo took the podium, he described Mayweather as a different type of fighter and that he has to plan according to who he fights. When asked about Mayweather’s camp saying that it was his idea to fight at a catch weight of 152 pounds, Canelo responded saying that the idea didn’t come from his camp and he wouldn’t want to fight two pounds below his weight class. During the news conference, Canelo expressed that he’s very confident that he could make weight and that he could beat Mayweather.
On September 14th, it should be a very exciting fight between an undefeated legend in the sport, Mayweather, and a bright new comer, Canelo, as they fight for who will be crowned, "The One". Hopefully, this fight will be one of the more exciting fights this year.
