With the first half of the season in the bag, the stars stepped out for NBA All-Star weekend in New Orleans. Many NBA fans and players look forward to the weekend due to the events and competitions that take place -- also it gives the players a chance to relax, have fun, and refresh for the second half of the season. Here is a recap of what went down during NBA All-Star weekend:
Friday night Rising Stars Challenge - Tim Hardaway Jr. represented well for the “Knicks Tape” and dropped 36 points in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge for Team Webber (Chris Webber’s team). Despite the 36 points from Hardaway Jr., Team Webber lost to Team Hill (Grant Hill’s team) 142-136. Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons took home the MVP award -- Drummond had 30 points and a new Rising Stars Challenge-record 25 rebounds.
Drummond had a great performance, but the highlight of the night was the one-on-one battle between Hardaway Jr. and Dion Waiters. In the second half, Hardaway Jr. and Waiters exchanged baskets while guarding each other one-on-one.
On one play, Waiters caused Hardaway Jr. to slip and finished the play by making the 3-pointer. Hardaway Jr., not embarrassed by having his “ankles broke,” responded by pulling up deep for three and nailing it over Waiters. That basket caused leading MVP candidate and All-Star forward Kevin Durant to leave his seat and do a shimmy on the sidelines. It was a fun moment for the players involved in the game, and for those who were watching.
Dion Waiters finished with 31 points.
