Funerals Begin For Slain Children & Adults From Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting

In the aftermath of the horrible elementary school shooting that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary school, parents, friends and family members gathered together this week to prepare to bury the 20 children and seven adults that were murdered by Adam Lanza. Students in Newtown have resumed classes except for those who attended Sandy Hook where Lanza took the lives of students, teachers and himself on Friday morning.
Since this tragedy occurred, Dicks Sporting Goods has decided to suspend sales of modern rifles nationwide and they will also remove all guns from display at their store locations closest to Newtown. While the suspension of modern rifles from a sporting goods store is definitely a step in the right direction, it won’t be enough to stop this tragedy from ever happening again. A spokesperson from The White House stated that President Obama was in support to reinstate an assault weapons ban, which would hopefully decrease the amount of mass murders in the coming years.

First Lady Michelle Obama Portrayed As Transgendered Woman On Candy Magazine

Candy, a new magazine geared toward transgendered people, recently released their fifth edition of their magazine with a portrayal of First Lady Michelle Obama as a transgendered woman as a politician being sworn into office. The publisher of the magazine, Luis Venegas, stated that having an African American woman as the First Lady could possibly extend to transgendered people. He stated, “I remember back in early 2007 when the Democratic Party’s nominees were narrowed down between two “controversial” stereotypes never before seen for presidency: a black man, Barack Obama; and a woman, Hillary Rodham Clinton. At that time, I thought, ‘when will the time come when these archaic walls break down and the White House will be occupied by, for example, a black, transsexual woman?” Many have found this portrayal of First Lady Michelle as a transgenered person to be offensive, however Candy Magazine hints that as the first African American woman in the White House, this could be a milestone for minorities, including transgenered people.
