Washington D.C. Navy Yard Shooting
Tragedy struck in Washington D.C. early Monday morning as a former Navy reservist, Aaron Alexis, 34, killed 12 people and injured 8 in a mass shooting throughout the Navy Yard. The shooting led authorities to lock down part of the city in man hunt for two other armed men that were spotted on video camera, even after Alexis was shot and killed by policemen.
Later Monday evening, it was confirmed that Alexis acted alone and was working for a military subcontractor.
The NY Times reports:
Officials said Mr. Alexis drove a rental car to the base and entered using his access as a contractor and shot an officer and one other person outside Building 197, the Sea Systems Command headquarters. Inside, Mr. Alexis made his way to a floor overlooking an atrium and took aim at employees eating breakfast below.
Our prayers go out to the family of the victims of this sensless tragedy.
