Judge Rules NYPD Stop-and-Frisk Practice Violates Rights

Has the NYPD violated the constitution with the "stop and frisk" law - stating that they have the right to stop and search people that are suspected of criminal activity? A judge ruled on Monday that police departments should take a closer look at this tatic as it's a version of racial profiling and a violatiion of civil rights. The Wall Street Journal reports:

"Finding that New York City's so-called stop-and-frisk program amounted to "indirect racial profiling" by targeting blacks and Hispanics disproportionate to their populations, U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin ordered the installation of the department's first-ever independent monitor to oversee changes to its practices. City officials have argued that stop-and-frisk is a key component in their largely successful efforts to fight crime, but opponents have criticized it as a blatant violation of civil rights."

Russell Simmons Releases Apology For 'Harriet Tubman Sex Tape' Parody

After receiving much backlash from the African American community over the 'Harriet Tubman Sex Tape' paraody released on Russell Simmons' YouTube channel, he released a public apology saying:

"In the whole history of Def Comedy Jam, I’ve never taken down a controversial comedian. When my buddies from the NAACP called and asked me to take down the Harriet Tubman video from the All Def Digital YouTube channel and apologize, I agreed.

I’m a very liberal person with thick skin and it’s hard to offend me. My first impression of the Harriet Tubman piece was that it was about what one of the actors said in the video, that 162 years later, there’s still tremendous injustice. And Harriet Tubman outwitting the slave master, I thought that was politically correct. Silly me. I guess I’m older now and instead of fighting for one piece of content, I can understand why so many people are upset. I have taken down the video. Lastly, I would never condone violence against women in any form, and for all of those I offended, I am sincerely sorry."
