Washington D.C. Navy Yard Shooting

Tragedy struck in Washington D.C. early Monday morning as a former Navy reservist, Aaron Alexis, 34, killed 12 people and injured 8 in a mass shooting throughout the Navy Yard. The shooting led authorities to lock down part of the city in man hunt for two other armed men that were spotted on video camera, even after Alexis was shot and killed by policemen.

Later Monday evening, it was confirmed that Alexis acted alone and was working for a military subcontractor.

The NY Times reports:

Officials said Mr. Alexis drove a rental car to the base and entered using his access as a contractor and shot an officer and one other person outside Building 197, the Sea Systems Command headquarters. Inside, Mr. Alexis made his way to a floor overlooking an atrium and took aim at employees eating breakfast below.

John Legend Marries Model Chrissy Teigen

Singer John Legend married his long time girlfriend, Chrissy Teigen, in a private ceremony at an estate in Italy. The couple have been dating since 2007 and finally said "i do" after about a year of engagement.

 

Although media cameras weren't allowed in the ceremony, Chrissy did share a few pictures from her special day via her Instagram account. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. John Legend!

Former Heavyweight Champion Ken Norton Dies

 

Former heavyweight champion Ken Norton, who beat Muhammad Ali in 1973 after breaking his jaw, died Wednesday at a local care facility at 70 years old. According to reports, Norton was suffering from a series of strokes over the past couple years. Norton's son, Ken Norton Jr., who is currently a coach with the Seattle Seahawks, confirmed his father's death to news reporters on the day of his passing. LeBron James Marries Highschool Sweetheart, Savannah Brinsom

LeBron James and his long time girifrlend, Savannah, finally tied the knot this past week in a private ceremony in San Diego. Although the couple didn't allow media cameras in the ceremony, we're told that many of the couple's closest friends and family were in attendance including Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union, Chris and Adrienne Bosh and even Beyonce and Jay Z. The couple is currently spending their honeymoon in Rome but LeBron made sure to leave us with this special message on his Instagram:

Sneak Peak of Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing
 
The highly anticipated Julien Temple Marvin Gaye biopic is currently under production and we've got the first sneak peak right here. The film entitled, "Sexual Healing, stars Jesse L. Martin as Gaye, Epatha Merkerson as Marvin's mother, Alberta Cooper Gay, and Dwight Henry as Marvin Gaye's father, Marvin Gay, Sr. The film has a release date of April 1, 2013 and is currently 70% completed. The film focuses on the recording of Marvin's "Midnigth Love" album while he was heavily into drug usage and living in Belgium. Check out the sneak peak below.

Surprise surprise, Jay Z and Beyonce are on the top of the Forbes' list of hightest- paid celebrity couples. Together, Bey and Jay earned $94 million in a year. Much of their fortune comes from endorsements, tours and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. 

Kerry Washington Named Best Dressed Woman Of The Year

PEOPLE magazine named Kerry Washington the best dressed woman of the year in their annual "Best Dressed" list. When asked about her fashion inspiration, Kerry Washington told PEOPLE, “For me the goal is to feel comfortable, event-appropriate and to be an elevated, more special version of myself or to feel like the best version of myself in that context and just be in the moment.”

President Obama Scheduled to Speak at Congressional Black Caucus Awards Dinner


President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak at the 43rd annual Congressional Black Caucus Awards Dinner this weekend held in Washington D.C. CBC Foundation board chair, Chaka Fattah, spoke of President Obama's presence at the dinner as an honor, stating "It is an honor and privilege to have alumni CBC member President Barack Obama address this year's Phoenix Awards Dinner."

This year's dinner has a special theme, "Spirit of 1963" and will pay tribute to the Civil Rights Movement in 1960s in honor of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech and the March on Washington. 

Magic Johnson Launches At Risk Youth Program

Earvin "Magic" Johnson and rapper Common have teamed up to launch the "Friends of Magic" prgram to help at risk youth in Chicago. The program is geared toward students in Chicago and youth who have dropped out of high school in efforts to help them with graduating. Magic launched the program at a ceremony and took the podium in tears after listening to a student's heartfelt message. The former NBA star hopes that his efforts will help lower the high school dropout rate across the country.

 

 

Emmys To Pay Tribute To 1960s This Sunday

 

Don Cheadle will host a special segment during this year's Emmy Awards based on the media coverage of the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy. Following this presentation, there will be a salute to the Beatles' followed by a musical rendition from Carrie Underwood of the music of the 1960s. Executive producers of the Emmy Awards stated that the 60s represent TVs "finest hour".

The Emmy Awards will air at 8 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
