What's on your Resolution List this year?
As 2013 comes to an end, a lot of Americans are thinking about how they can improve their lives going into 2014.
Popular New Years resolutions include losing weight, quitting smoking, and finding another job, according to USA.gov.
Another common resolution is managing stress—that’s the one that’s on my list.
Stress, although subjective, is something most people can report feeling. According to a recent op-ed in The Atlantic, stress can cause people to feel helpless and instead react to stress by just falling asleep.
Our bodies also react to stress by going into fight-or-flight mode, causing among other things, our heart rate to increase as we respond to perceived threats.
Another thing about stress is that if it’s left unmanaged, it can actually make us sick. According to the American Institute of Stress, stress can cause sore muscles, headaches, bowel problems, depression, increased drinking, smoking, or pain medication use.
So if stress is something you’re looking to manage, read more about it here.
