Children look at the world in a different way than adults, and taking notes from them can improve our lives in many ways.
For one, they are quick to forgive.
Yes, they get their feelings hurt and they have bad days, but children don’t hold grudges. Like the popular quote “holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die,” children understand in their own way that being happy is way more important.
It’s easy to get caught up in the negatives of life, but children marvel at the world, they are carefree, and they are free from hate and prejudice.
But being childlike doesn’t mean being childish. We still have responsibilities as adults and it’s always important to love and trust without being blind. So what can we do to maintain our responsibility and maturity but also be more childlike?
1. Appreciate all the good that’s around you. Welcome nature, see the good in people, and be present in your relationships.
2. Learn new things and share them with the people around you. Remember going home to tell your family all the cool things you learned in Science or History class?
3. Be more selfish with your time. If your lifestyle permits, take some time out to do things that bring joy into your life whether it’s dancing, painting, or reading a good book.
4. Say: “I love you.” Children often have strong relationships with their friends and family, and they aren’t afraid to let them know how they feel. Think of the people in your life who you haven’t spoken to in a long time. Reach out to them and let them know you’re thinking of them. Free some time in your busy schedule for a lunch date, even.
5. Say: “I’m sorry.” Children can admit when they are wrong and they have no problem moving forward. Has an argument ruined a valuable relationship in your life? Reach out, say sorry, and move on.
