Aspiring Model Shares Experience with Domestic Violence on Instagram

Yesterday I woke up to a text from my friend “did you see the girl’s Instagram who put the pictures up of her body and face after her BF beat her?”

The photos, after a day, had gone viral.

Sure enough after a scroll down my timeline, one of the guys I follow reposted her pictures and tagged her.

Her bio was cheery and said that she’s a “Aspiring Victoria’s Secret Model/Actress.”

Underneath the photos she posted of a brutal beating she received, she said, “This night [sic] be a little graphic but I just want to let everyone know that I am okay.”

She continued on, “I was kicked out of a moving vehicle.”

Her story is similar to the same narrative of abusive relationships. Her partner was insecure and accused her of cheating even though she wasn’t, she said. And what’s more, she thought that he loved her. She thought they were in love.

But, “How can someone that ‘loves’ me do this to me,” she reasoned.

When you are in an abusive relationship, your view about love becomes skewed and you no longer recognize that a loving relationship is always about respect.

It’s extremely difficult to open yourself to criticism these days, so props to that young lady for sharing her story. She received an outpouring of support from the online world. According to her Twitter, she went from about 1k Instagram followers to more than 80k. Hopefully her story has enlightened some people on abusive relationships and has prompted others to get help.

If you know someone who is in an abusive relationship, please learn all the types of relationship abuse and know that no one deserves to be in an abusive relationship regardless of race, age, religion, sexual orientation, cultural affiliation, body type, or physical attractiveness. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.
