In a candid moment from her February 2024 appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, comedian Mo’Nique offered the NFL Hall of Famer some pointed relationship advice. The clip, which recently resurfaced online, showcases Mo’Nique’s signature blend of humor and sincerity as she cautions Sharpe against dating significantly younger women.

Auntie Mo’Nique’s Dating Wisdom

“Shannon needs an old, fat gal,” Mo’Nique declared during the interview. “Someone who bakes good cakes. Someone who can make a smothered turkey and rub his feet at the nighttime.” She emphasized, “You don’t need no 26-year-old girl. You don’t need no 36-year-old girl. This is your auntie talking to you. Take your ass and go get yourself an old b**ch out there.”

Sharpe, known for his charismatic presence both on and off the field, took the advice in stride, sharing a hearty laugh with Mo’Nique. The exchange highlighted the genuine rapport between the two, adding a layer of warmth to the conversation.

The resurfacing of this lighthearted exchange comes amid serious legal challenges for Sharpe. On April 21, 2025, a woman identified as Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit against him, alleging sexual assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The complaint seeks over $50 million in damages. Sharpe has vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them a “shakedown” and asserting that the relationship was consensual, involving role-playing scenarios. His attorney, Lanny Davis, stated that the woman rejected a $10 million settlement offer prior to filing the suit. The accuser’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, has released an audio clip allegedly featuring Sharpe issuing violent threats during a conversation with the woman. Davis dismissed the language as non-literal and part of consensual role-play. Sharpe plans to countersue both the accuser and Buzbee for defamation.

Additionally, Sharpe recently secured a legal victory in a separate matter. In September 2024, a federal appeals court dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by former NFL quarterback Brett Favre. Favre had sued Sharpe over comments made in 2022 regarding Favre’s alleged involvement in a Mississippi welfare scandal. The court ruled that Sharpe’s statements were protected opinions based on public facts.
