Tyler Perry has donated $100,000 to Pastor Marvin Winans’ church after the backlash the pastor received for publicly criticizing Roberta McCoy’s $1,235 donation.

Earlier this month, Pastor Winans at Perfecting Church made headlines after publicly embarrassing McCoy and rebuking her for not following his instructions to come up and donate $2,000, like other members did.

McCoy later dismissed the controversy saying the pastor did not rebuke her, he simply corrected her.

“He absolutely did not rebuke me,” McCoy explained. “Now there’s a difference. There was a correction because let me clearly state that pastor gave instruction on the lines to get into.”

Critics online called the interaction “insensitive,” and the internet had its field day with memes, hashtags, and hot takes. According to the pastor, the $2,000 per member tithe is to support the new Perfecting Church building in Detroit, a project that’s been years in the making.

But critics are now reacting to a surprise $100K donation from renown filmmaker Tyler Perry.

Winans, who has a recurring role in the hit TV sitcom “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” announced Perry’s generous gift during Sunday’s church service.

Winans stood tall in the pulpit, expressing gratitude for everyone who saw the bigger picture. He thanked donors and emphasized how the controversy became a testimony of faith. “God showed up in ways I didn’t expect,” he said. “Even when people tried to turn this into a scandal, He turned it into a seed.”
