R&B singer Mario is setting the record straight after rumors began circulating online suggesting that he doesn’t like or date Black women.
The speculation, which surfaced after fans analyzed his dating history and social media interactions, quickly sparked conversation across social platforms — and Mario isn’t here for it.
During a recent interview on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, the Let Me Love You singer addressed the claims directly. When he asked “anything against Black women,” Mario responded, “No sir, amen, no sir I don’t, never have.”
“My grandmother was my hero,” Mario said. “She was the contrast in my life when it came to understanding the importance of a Black woman, the strength, the soul, her relationship with God that was unwavering. She was used and abused for her strength, but she never wavered in her character.”
The Baltimore native went on to explain that misconceptions often arise because fans make assumptions based on photos or public appearances.
“I recently posted something about the slander I see online, about Black women not being loved based on who people decide to date,” he explained. “I don’t understand that. There are so many Black couples thriving, doing amazing things, and they don’t get that same attention.”
