Grammy-winning singer SZA addressed the surprising online feud with fellow artist Nicki Minaj in an interview with GQ. “I don’t know her. We have no connection to each other,” SZA stated plainly, as she distanced herself from what she called a “strange” social-media exchange.

Unpacking the Online Clash

The conflict began in July when Minaj took aim at SZA on X (formerly Twitter), accusing her of throwing subliminal shots and questioning her relevance in the music business. Minaj wrote, “SZA if every song you’ve ever done vanished right now the music business wouldn’t even miss you. I’ve been to countries that never heard of you.”

Responding indirectly, SZA acknowledged the remarks but declined to engage further. “It was a little strange. It was very like, ‘Why?’ But also, you know, ‘I guess,’” she told GQ. “That’s not even my place to correct a narrative that I don’t got s— to do with.”

SZA stressed that, to her knowledge, there is no history between the two artists. “There’s no back-story when it comes to the heated back-and-forth,” she said. “It was just like, ‘Roc Nation’… I don’t know where it came from.”

She also reiterated that she prefers to steer clear of public feuds. “It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men?” SZA noted when referencing another industry conflict. “And I feel like that’s how everybody felt—with the exception of people who didn’t feel that way.”

While Minaj accused SZA of being insecure, putting out a deluxe reissue of an album just to break records, SZA did not respond directly to those specific claims.

Despite the online skirmish, SZA emphasized where her focus lies. “My parents are healthy, and I’m the most successful I ever been,” she wrote on X after the initial clash. “GET SOME F—ING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL!!!”

She added that she prefers to direct her energy into her art rather than public confrontations. With a new album in the works and a busy year behind her, she said she’s aiming for growth and authenticity.
