Veteran songbirds, Kem and and Marsha Ambrosius have joined forces for a reimagined version of Kem’s “Rock With Me.”
The soulful tune was originally released as a digital bonus track on Kem’s Full Circle EP, per YouKnowIGotSoul.com. In the original track, Kem pours his heart out to his lover in a soulful serenade. The latest version maintains the same passionate lyrics but offers a mid-tempo groove with added vocals from Marsha.
The collaboration is in part a nod to the friendship between Kem and Marsha. Kem helped found Floetry before embarking upon a solo career in 2009 as a singer, musician, songwriter and producer.
Over the years, the two artists performed on various stages including, the Summer White concert in Detroit, the NJPAC, the Love Tour, and recently co-headlined the Soul II Soul Tour.
This summer, the Detroit R&B star announced his departure from Motown Records, his label home for more than two decades, resuming the do-it-yourself approach that put him on the map to begin with.
At the time he shared that he experienced a shift in life which lead to this decision.
“Over the last three to five years, I’ve done a lot of internal soul-searching about the seasons of my life — being married, having young children, thinking about my career and about the sea change in the music industry and content creation,” he told the Free Press. “With the traditional model of doing business, everything has shifted.”
The shift lead him back to his self-owned label, Kemistry Records. “My move back to Kemistry Records is a return to everything I love and cherish about the music-making process,” he shared with VIBE. “I’m returning to my musical roots and to my independence as an artist, a songwriter, and an entrepreneur. Most importantly, I’m returning to the ability to musically reach out and touch my fans in a meaningful way.”
