Boxing legends Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are slated to face off in a high-profile exhibition match scheduled for March 2026 — according to Tyson’s own remarks.
At a live appearance last week, Tyson told fans: “Floyd Mayweather, can you believe that? It’s gonna be in March, and it’s gonna be in Africa.” He added, “This is gonna be incredible, it’s gonna break all the records.”
The announcement builds on a confirmation from promoters in September that the two Hall-of-Famers had agreed to an early-2026 exhibition. At the time, no date or venue was disclosed.
Tyson, 59, and Mayweather, 48, carry a combined decades-long legacy that includes dozens of titles, major fights and global fame. But the details remain murky. The fight’s official promoters, CSI Sports, have yet to confirm a precise venue, exact date, number of rounds or weight class.
Tyson acknowledged the risks while speaking publicly. “I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!” he said.
Mayweather, in turn, struck a confident tone. “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary,” he said in the release that announced the fight. “I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
Spectacle Over Sport
Given their age and the wide weight disparity between them — Tyson last fought at heavyweight, while Mayweather built his career several divisions below — this matchup appears to be more spectacle than sport.
Still, promoters are banking on global interest. CSI Sports describes the event as more than a fight — a worldwide boxing spectacle with modern production and marketing efforts.
