The New Jack Swing pioneer recently shared a rough snippet of R. Kelly singing over Chris Brown’s popular track “It Depends,” sparking speculation that the incarcerated singer may be gearing up for a surprise musical return. While the audio sounds like it was recorded over a phone call, R. Kelly confirms it’s really him on the vocals and not A.I., while also giving Brown a shout-out.

The snippet was first posted by Kelly’s label, Rockland Records, on Instagram on Jan. 8.

Riley didn’t stop there. In a caption that immediately fueled fan curiosity, he strongly hinted that more music from R. Kelly could be on the way.

“Still the King of R&B Bar None!!!! Can’t wait for y’all to hear the new R. Kelly music!!! Til then teaser missiles will be dropping!!! It’s about that time for real music,” wrote the New Jack Swing legend.

Chris Brown also appeared to cosign the moment by responding to the original post with eye and fire emojis, subtly stamping his approval of the remix by R. Kelly.

The possibility of new R. Kelly music surfacing from behind bars isn’t entirely surprising. He joined Brown’s “Residual” challenge last year.

Kelly is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence after being convicted in 2022 on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. His sentence is scheduled to run through late 2045. He is also serving a separate 20-year sentence from a Chicago case involving child pornography and enticement charges.
