Mathew Knowles, father of global music icon Beyoncé, says the singer’s rise to billionaire status was never driven by a desire for wealth. In recent comments to Page Six, Knowles stressed that his daughter has always focused on her craft and her fans rather than money.
Forbes officially listed Beyoncé as a billionaire at the end of 2025, placing her among a rarefied group of musicians who have reached the ten-figure mark. Her success includes blockbuster tours like The Renaissance World Tour and the Cowboy Carter tour, as well as business ventures that range from spirits to hair care.
But Mathew Knowles, who first helped guide her career decades ago, said money was never her motivation.
“I’ve never heard Beyoncé ever talk about money,” he told Page Six. “It’s always been, ‘How can I make my fans happy? How can I be the best at what I’m doing?’”
Knowles, 74, said that although financial success came with her achievements, it was not a goal she ever pursued intentionally.
“Her money came with the success, but that has never been a goal of hers. And I love that about her,” he said. “That’s just not Beyoncé. That’s not who she is.”
Focus on Artistry and Community
The elder Knowles said Beyoncé’s priorities have always been about excellence and connection. He noted that her relentless work ethic has shaped her career from her early days in Destiny’s Child to her current position as one of the most influential artists in the world.
“She’s motivated by being the very best,” he said. “She’s motivated by making her fans happy and … giving back to the community as well.”
Beyoncé has maintained a relatively private public profile in recent years, giving few direct interviews. In one 2024 interview with GQ, she explained that her work is inspired by filling a need or solving a problem, rather than financial gain.
Her business ventures include Parkwood Entertainment, which she founded in 2010 to manage creative output on her own terms. Over the years, she has expanded into products like SirDavis whisky and the Cécred haircare line.
Despite attaining billionaire status, Beyoncé’s father said the milestone does not define her. Knowles said he congratulated her when the recognition was announced, but he still sees her mission rooted in artistic and personal values.
“That’s just not Beyoncé. That’s not who she is,” he insisted.
Mathew Knowles is also promoting Destiny’s Child: Iconic Reimagined Tribute, a touring live show honoring the group that launched Beyoncé’s career. He has said the production will travel nationally and expand beyond its initial run in Houston.
