Kem Announces Residencies At Blue Note In NY And LA

Keith Majors

Kem will be bringing his smooth sound to New York and Los Angeles in honor of one of his musical heroes.

The acclaimed R&B singer/songwriter’s latest project is “ ALKEMY: A Soulful Jazz Homage To Al Jarreau-Live The Blue Note.”

The residency is “a unique and intimate musical experience at the iconic Blue Note Jazz Clubs in New York City and Los Angeles.”

According to the press release, the series of shows evokes the glamour and intimacy of a bygone era. Alchemy is rooted in Kem’s love for Al Jarreau and the jazz world. The project blends Kem’s “velvet vocals, improvisational brilliance, and timeless sophistication.”

In a statement, Kem shared his excitement about the residency and why Jarreau is one of his greatest influences.

“This is my way of honoring Al, one of my most significant musical inspirations,” said Kem. “His voice, his fearlessness, and his love for jazz were unique and unmatched. The ALKEMY project is my way of honoring the album we talked about but never got to make together. This project is a tribute to our mutual respect, gratitude, and keeping that spirit alive.”

Additionally, Kem will preview his album  ALKEMY, produced by GRAMMY Award–winning Robert Glasper. In this collaboration, Glasper reimagines selections from Kem’s signature songs, woven together with songs from and inspired by the iconic Al Jarreau.

“This collaboration felt like a natural and timely alignment. I’m grateful the moment finally presented itself. I’ve wanted to work with KEM for quite some time, and I knew that bringing our creative visions together would result in something truly special,” said Glasper.

Dates for ALKEMY at the Blue Note New York are on March 5-8 and at the Blue Note Los Angeles on March 12-15.

Tickets are currently available at Ticketmaster.
