Ice Cube and Mike Epps are getting back together.
The Hip-hop icon and comedy legend are reuniting to celebrate 30 years of the Friday franchise. To honor the legacy of the film, the duo will headline a special hip-hop and comedy showcase at the Long Beach Amphitheater on July 17, Billboard reports.
The Everyday’s Friday: Lyrics, Lougin’ and Laughing show “will feature an as-yet-unannounced lineup of comedians.” Also, Warren G and the Scarface will be the musical guests of
Ice Cube confirmed the celebration in an official statement.
“Friday has always been about and for the fans who made it a classic and kept it alive for nearly 30 years. To be able to step back out there with Mike Epps and bring that energy to the stage for a one-night-only experience in Long Beach is special,” Cube said. “This show represents the beginning of the next chapter.”
“Every day for the last 30 years, someone has told me how much they loved the Friday franchise and how much the characters mean to them,” Epps added. “To reunite with Cube and bring this one-night-only experience to the fans is incredible.”
Live Nation’s pre-sale begins this Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. local time. To secure early access, fans are encouraged to sign up for a free All Access membership. Following the pre-sale, the general ticket release will open Friday, May 15, at 10 a.m. local time via the official venue site.
Adding to the festivities, the event will host a high-stakes costume contest for those dressed as their favorite Friday characters. The stakes are high, with a $2,000 grand prize and an exclusive meet-and-greet for first place, followed by $1,000 for second and $500 for third.
THE ‘FRIDAY’ FILM FRANCHISE
Released in 1995, directed by F. Gary Gray, Friday was written by Cube and DJ Pooh. The classic film starred Nia Long, Tiny Lister, Anna Marie Horseford, Regina King, Bernie Mac, and John Witherspoon.
Next Friday, starring Cube and Epps, whose high-energy portrayal of Day-Day Jones successfully filled the comedic void left by Chris Tucker. Also, Witherspoon and Lister returned with Don “D.C.” Curry and Kim Whitfield
Friday After Next, the last installment of the franchise, starred Cube Epps. The ensemble cast included Terry Crews ,Damon Pearly, and Katt Williams.
At Dodger Stadium, when Cube throught out the first pitch, Epps suprised him be revealing himself as the catcher.
