Zaire Wade, the eldest son of NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, was arrested in California on suspicion of felony domestic violence following an early morning incident in Burbank, authorities said.
According to law enforcement, officers responded to a home around 5:30 a.m. on June 21 after receiving a 911 call reporting that a woman was screaming. When officers arrived, they found a woman with visible lacerations to her face and body. Paramedics evaluated the woman at the scene, but she was not transported to a hospital. Authorities also recovered a handgun from the residence.
Police arrested the 24-year-old on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment. He was later booked into custody before posting a $50,000 bond and being released the same day. An emergency protective order was also issued in connection with the case.
Investigation Continues
The Burbank Police Department said detectives are preparing to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of formal charges. As of publication, prosecutors have not announced whether charges will be filed.
Authorities have not publicly identified the woman involved.
Neither Zaire Wade nor representatives for his family had publicly commented on the arrest as of Friday evening. Multiple media outlets reported they contacted the Wade family for comment but had not received a response.
An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Criminal allegations must be proven in court, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Basketball Career
Zaire Wade pursued a professional basketball career after playing at Sierra Canyon School in Southern California and Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Rather than attend college, he elected to enter the professional ranks after receiving scholarship interest from several NCAA programs.
He later spent time with the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA G League before continuing his career overseas. Wade has also competed in South Africa’s Basketball Africa League and most recently played internationally.
The arrest has drawn significant public attention because of Wade’s family ties. His father, Dwyane Wade, enjoyed a decorated NBA career that included three league championships and induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Zaire has occasionally appeared alongside his father and other family members at public events throughout his basketball career.
The criminal investigation remains active. Additional information, including any charging decision by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, is expected as investigators complete their review of the case.
