Tiffany Haddish recently revealed the source of her hilarious comedy.
During an appearance on Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson’s Words with Scoop podcast, she spoke about how comedy was her protection.
It was the fact that I made my mama laugh so I wouldn’t get a beating,” Haddish said. “If I told a joke, she would forget that she promised me an a**-whipping. It also got the bullies off my back and protected me.”
Haddish said she never “fell in love” with comedy, but it is the essence of who she is.
”I’m not in love with comedy. I am comedy,” said Haddish. “This is what I was built to do, and I’m built to bring joy. So that’s what I do.”
For Haddish, comedy is her life.
”Being in love is temporary, but this is like how I need to breathe,” she continued. “You need to breathe to live—and that’s how I need comedy.”
HADDISH WAS SELECTED TO BE IN THE SI SWIMSUIT ISSUE
Along with her comedy, Haddish was selected to be on the 2026 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover.
.Appearing on TODAY, the comedian shared how she found out that she was chosen for the cover.
“Yes, I found out at Paris Hilton’s house,” Haddish told co-hosts Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie. “Basically, they wanted to surprise me and announce it to me. I had just finished doing a whole promo thing for my foundation, for [my] She Ready Foundation and Paris and Brooks [Nader], they surprised me.”
Haddish said that Hilton surprised her with a cake to celebrate the milestone.
“They got me a cake and said, ‘You got the cover.’ And I didn’t believe it was real,” Haddish continued. “I love Paris. She’s a really great friend, and I feel like every time I manifest something, I tell her what I want to do, it happens.”
