Autumn Lockwood has made NFL History again!
In 2023, she became the first Black woman to coach in a Super Bowl as the assistant sports performance coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and now she has become the first Black woman coach to win a Super Bowl.
During Sunday’s game, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40- 22, with Jalen Hurts winning the MVP. According to reports, Lockwood’s victory “represents a seismic shift in a league that has long struggled with representation.”
It’s no secret that football is a sport where the coaching staff has been white males for years until Lockwood broke that barrier. Autumn Lockwood’s journey to the NFL began in college when she earned her degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Arizona. From there she secured roles in strength and conditioning at East Tennessee State University and the University of Houston.
Her work caught the attention of the Atlanta Falcons, and she joined the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, which allowed her to join the Eagles in 2023. She is now a Super Bowl ring holder!
Congratulations to Autumn Lockwood.
