Tamar Braxton was born on March 17th, 1977 in Severn, Maryland to Michael and Evelyn Braxton. Braxton is commonly known as an R&B singer-songwriter, actress, and television personality. Tamar’s passion for singing began as a toddler singing in the church choir, where her father was a pastor. Tamar was the youngest of six children. Tamar and her sisters Traci, Towanda, Trina and Toni eventually formed an R&B group called “The Braxtons”. By 1989 they signed their first record deal with Arista Records. After dropping their first single “Good life” in 1990 they were dropped from the label.
In 1991, Toni was signed to LaFace records. At the time they were not looking for another female group, after signing TLC. Tamar and her sisters became backup singers for Toni. Tamar decided to leave the group to establish a solo career, releasing her self-titled album with DreamWorks in 2000. After singles “Get Done” and “If You Don’t Love Me” were unsuccessful the album did not sell, charting at #127 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Tamar was dropped from the label. It did not stop there for Tamar; she later got married to Vincent Herbert in 2008. She starred in WE tv reality shows Braxton Family Values and Tamar and Vince. By 2012, Tamar had a recording contract with Streamline Records. Returning to the music industry after a long break, she released her second album, Love and War. The album debuted at number two on the billboard 200, due to its success the album this was considered to be a major comeback for Braxton.
