Ruben Santiago-Hudson was honored at Harlem Week this past weekend.
The actor, playwright, and director was honored for his contributions to Broadway theater and the arts. “I feel grateful that the people of Harlem have acknowledged me,” he said while receiving his award.
He continued, “I feel grateful that the Lord continues to give me strength to do the work that I need to do to help the healing of myself and the healing of my community to protect the images, dignity, and integrity of my ancestors and that it’s clear to me that I always fight to make the world understand that my history did not begin with a bill of sale, that my history is as deep as the Nile River and the hills of Puerto Rico. I’m proud.”
Santiago-Hudson was given a photo representing the 125th anniversary of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.
Congratulations to Ruben Santiago-Hudson.
