A new documentary series chronicling the life and career of rapper and entrepreneur 50 Cent is headed to Hulu, marking the latest expansion of the artist’s growing presence in television and film.
The streaming platform has greenlit a three-part docuseries centered on 50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, following a competitive bidding process among major media companies. Reports indicate Hulu secured the project after interest from several rival platforms.
The series aims to provide what producers describe as a definitive portrait of the hip-hop star’s rise from Queens, New York, to global prominence. It will explore his early life, music career, and evolution into a business figure and media producer.
From Queens to Global Influence
According to production details, the docuseries will trace Jackson’s trajectory from his upbringing in South Jamaica, Queens, to becoming one of rap’s most recognizable figures. He rose to fame with his 2003 debut album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” which helped establish his place in mainstream music.
The project is expected to highlight not only his music success but also his ventures beyond the recording industry. Producers plan to examine his work in television, film, and business, emphasizing his ability to reinvent himself across multiple industries.
In a description of the series, the production frames Jackson’s story as one of persistence and transformation, focusing on how he “relentlessly reinvented himself” while reshaping ideas of influence and success.
Creative Team and Industry Context
The series will be directed by filmmaker Mandon Lovett, known for previous music-centered documentaries. It will be produced by The Intellectual Property Corporation in partnership with G-Unit Film & Television, Jackson’s own company.
Patrick Altena is attached as showrunner and executive producer, joining a team that includes Jackson himself and other established nonfiction producers.
The project arrives as Hulu continues to invest in music-driven documentary programming. The platform has recently released projects centered on major artists, reflecting a broader trend in streaming toward biographical storytelling in the music industry.
Jackson has already built a reputation as a producer in the documentary space. He previously served as an executive producer on “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” a 2025 Netflix docuseries that examined the career and controversies surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The upcoming Hulu series shifts the focus inward, offering a closer look at Jackson’s own life and legacy.
A release date has not yet been announced.
