Jamaican-born Violet Edwards, 96, received her degree on June 25, 2022 becoming the oldest African American to graduate from college from Mercy College in New York.
In addition, Edwards is also the fifth-oldest person in the world to graduate from college and the oldest person in Florida to receive a degree.
The 96-year old previously earned an Associate degree at the College of New Rochelle. She then transferred over to Mercy College but was unable to keep her 84 credits earned.
That did not stop Edwards! She later received her Bachelor degree with the highest honors and a 4.0 grade-point average.
According to Jamaicans.com, Violet Edwards was also presented with a Proclamation from the Consulate General of Jamaica. The Proclamation was presented to her by Oliver Mair, Consul General, Jamaica to Southern USA.
