Yesterday would have been Michael Jackson’s 60th birthday. To honor the date, PageSix exclusively reports that a miniseries about the first music video superstar is on the way.
The media outlet reports a small screen adaptation of Jackson and colleague Frank Cascio’s 2011 novel, My Friend Michael: An Ordinary Friendship With an Extraordinary Man, is being shopped around to different companies for production including Roc Nation’s new TV division.
An unnamed source told PageSix Cascio and special effects and makeup artist Jeff Farley are working together to create the project — Farley as the screenwriter and Cascio as the producer.
“The series will focus on the 25-year relationship between Cascio and Jackson, and is expected to go into production this fall,” the source said.
For those who don’t know, MJ and his colleague met when Jackson was 5 years old. They were friends who spent time at each other’s houses and enjoyed regular life.
“He would even help my mom vacuum the rug,” Cascio told Good Morning America in 2009. “He would, like, help clean up the house. And he was just a real human being.”
With a real chemistry behind between them, Cascio’s touch on this project may bring a real perspective on MJ’s life to light.
