Actor Art Evans Passes Away 82

Art Evans, a prominent actor, known for his roles in A Soldier’s Story and Die Hard 2 has passed away. He was 82.

According to Deadline, he died on Saturday, Dec. 21 of diabetes, “a condition he courageously managed for many years.”

His wife Babe confirmed his passing in an official statement.

“We are heartbroken to share that Art has passed away,” the statement read. “Please respect our privacy at this time. A memorial will be held for friends and family to attend at a later date. Thank you.”

“Art was not only an incredible actor but a devoted husband, friend, and source of light to everyone who knew him,” the statement read.

“His laughter, passion, and love of life will be deeply missed. While our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the legacy of joy and inspiration he leaves behind.”

LyNea Bell and Charleen McGuire, his representatives, described Evans as “a remarkable talent who touched many lives with his work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

Born March 27, 1942, in Los Angeles, Evans began his life-long love for acting at Frank Silvera’s Theater of Being. His first credited onscreen role was on an episode of Chico and the Man in 1976. Evans would amass more than 120 film and television credits.

In film, Evans appeared in Leadbelly, Fun with Dick and Jane, and The In-Laws (1979), He also stared in Christine, Fright Night, Native Son, School Daze, Tales from the Hood (1995), and The Story of Us (1999) to name a few.

On TV, he played Morgan for five seasons in the ABC series adaptation of 9 to 5 (1980). Evans also appeared in M*A*S*H, The Fall Guy, Hill Street Blues, 227, In the Heat of the Night, A Different World, Family Matters, Everybody Hates Chris, and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

Evans is survived by his wife Babe and son Ogadae.
