Amber Rose recently defended her racial identity following MSNBC host Joy Reid’s comments. Reid criticized Rose’s speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention, questioning her racial identification.
“She won’t even claim the culture that brought her to the table,” Reid said. “I don’t wanna say she’s Black because she has said she’s not, so I don’t wanna say this Black woman. This woman who is of whatever race that she has claimed, she’s said she’s not Black, but they’ve brought somebody whose whole career is based in Black culture. She used to be on a show on BET. That’s the reason most people know who she is.”
Rose quickly responded on Twitter, now known as X. She wrote, “Hi @JoyAnnReid I’ve never said I wasn’t black I said I identify as biracial. I’m not going to invalid my white father to make you feel more comfortable. Stop being a race baiter ur president does enough race baiting for all of us.”
Amber Rose’s Backlash and Support
Rose faced significant backlash for endorsing Donald Trump. In her convention speech, she said, “I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay or straight, it’s all love, and that’s when it hit me— these are my people. This is where I belong. So, I let go of my fear of judgment, of being misunderstood, of getting attacked by the left, and I put the red hat on, too.”
She later added, “I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, that the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States. I’m no politician and I don’t wanna be, but I do care about the truth, and the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump. I know this because for a long time, I believed those lies.” Rose claimed the nation was “safer, wealthier, and stronger” with Trump in office.
Candace Owens defended Rose, stating, “It’s understandable that people had some reaction — suddenly ‘What is Amber Rose doing here?’ It spoke to a lot of people. Her speech was a highlight of the evening. She’s very much struggling right now because of this horrible limbo of realizing your friends on the left don’t want you anymore because God forbid you wear a MAGA hat, but then your potential friends on the right are crawling through your pages and saying, ‘Ha, ha, ha, look at this girl — she’s a conservative? She’s supposed to be on stage?’”
Social media reactions were mixed, with both support and criticism of Rose. Many Republicans criticized her for her past activism against rape culture and her pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ+ stances.
