André 3000 is set to embark on his first solo tour in support of his instrumental album, New Blue Sun.
The album, which received critical acclaim upon its release in November, showcases André 3000’s return to music after more than a decade. Despite some raised eyebrows and light mocking, the artist describes the album as “a celebratory piece of work in the form of a living, breathing, improvised, aural organism.”
The New Blue Sun Live Tour kicks off on January 29 in Brooklyn and includes a three-night residency at the iconic Blue Note Jazz Club in Manhattan. The “intimate” tour will feature live shows in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, and conclude with a five-night stint in Los Angeles at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever, starting on March 5.
Joining André 3000 on tour are collaborators who played a significant role in the creation of New Blue Sun, including Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina, and Deantoni Parks. However, there is no indication that Big Boi, the other half of the legendary rap group Outkast, will be part of the tour.
Fans and the curious can purchase tickets starting Wednesday via the artist’s website, A Myriad of Pyramids. Additionally, André 3000 and his creative company have partnered with IMAX for a one-night-only event titled “Cinematic Album Listening Event & Live-Stream Q&A.” The event, scheduled for January 23, will take place across 22 movie theaters in the U.S.
