Angel Reese got some acting advice from Idris Elba for her first film role.

At the premiere of A House of Dynamite at the New York Film Festival, Reese recalled what she learned from Elba.

“He just said, ‘Stay confident. Be yourself. Have fun, ” Reese said.

She also got the opportunity to share some basketball advice with Elba.

“We were shooting baskets … and I was teaching him a few things too, so it was really fun.”

Reese also shared that she will be seeking an action coach to improve on her craft.

“I want to get an acting coach,” Reese said, “I was talking to Common — he’s overseas right now shooting season 2 of Silo — and he was telling me, ‘You got to hire an acting coach.’ “

“So I’m going to hire an acting coach,” she continued. “I model already, so it’s like adding to the résumé. I’m young right now, so I’m going to do it while I’m young.”

Taking on the role of a political leader is nothing new for Elba. This time around, he admitted that he was “super conscious” about playing the president.

“Playing the president was a challenge. But I’m hoping that … I wanted to bring a human side to this character, and I hope the audience enjoy that,” Elba explained.

He also shared his excitement about working with Kathryn Bigelow on her first film since 2017’s Detroit

“Bucket list. Working with Kathryn was something that I always wanted to do,” Elba said. “I’m a big admirer of her films. But the truth is, we got to make a really important film. A film that’s going to highlight, I guess, the fragility of our world and who we are as people.”

A House of Dynamite is in theaters on Oct. 10. It will then stream on Netflix on Oct. 24.
