Ashlee Simpson, gearing up for her I Am Me residency at the Voltaire nightclub inside the Venetian Resort, shares a deeply personal and supportive bond with her legendary mother-in-law, Diana Ross. In an exclusive interview with People, Simpson praised Ross’s steadfast support, saying, “She’s got my back no matter what.”

Simpson was eager to draw on Ross’s decades of performance wisdom. “Mama D always has the best advice,” Ashlee told People. “I think her best advice is staying true to yourself, staying true to your instincts.” Ross’s own rich history of Las Vegas performances—including at the Venetian—has provided a well of insight for Simpson as she returns to the stage after nearly 20 years.

Named after her 2005 album, I Am Me marks Simpson’s long-awaited return to solo shows. “I haven’t played a full set in like 20 years, so I’m so excited,” she said. “This just felt like the right opportunity to dive back into it and relive this old music.”

Beyond nostalgia, family has played a pivotal role in this revival. Simpson’s daughter Jagger, 10, has become both muse and cheerleader, frequently revisiting older tracks like L.O.V.E. with her friends. “She’s always listening to ‘L.O.V.E.’ and stuff with her friends,” Ashlee shared. “The fact that my daughter and her friends are revisiting this music, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, what a moment.’”
