President Barack Obama is debuting a new series on HBO.
Barack and Michelle Obama have teamed up with Larry David for an upcoming HBO sketch comedy series centered on American history.
Produced by the Obamas’ company, Higher Ground, the series is titled “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.” The series features David in his signature “curmudgeonly” style, with a satirical focus on characters who were largely ignored by history books.
In a video on HBO Max’s account on X (formerly Twitter), Barack teased the new project.
“I have sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of the globe’s most intractable problems,” Obama said. “Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David. I’m just a producer on this show, so I don’t have to deal with him day-to-day, but still, it’s a lot.”
According to the synopsis of the series, “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion…But then Larry David called.
Along with witty David, the series will feature select “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actors and “noteworthy guest stars.” The series is written and executive-produced by David and co-creator Jeff Schaffer, who also serves as director. Executive produced by Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Ethan Lewis, and Vinnie Malhotra for Higher Ground.
The seven-episode series debuts Friday, June 26, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. It will be available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes will debut weekly leading up to the season finale on August 7.
HIGHER GROUND LEAVES NETFLIX
In April 2026, Higher Ground announced it would transition into an independent production house after eight years of an exclusive deal with Netflix. This move allows them to collaborate with various studios and platforms while continuing to tell stories that “excavate the better angels of our nature.”
